Wherever your fear began, it ends here.
Dental anxiety affects about five million Americans. At Smile Maker of Texas we see it every day — and every day we help patients master it with safe, conscious sedation. Relaxed, comfortable, and with little memory of the visit at all.
Conscious, calm, and in control.
Sedation dentistry at Smile Maker of Texas is safe, conscious oral sedation: you take a prescribed pill one hour before treatment, receive additional relaxants when you arrive, and remain awake but deeply relaxed — with little recollection of the sights, sounds, smells, or sensations of the visit. Dental fear may start with a traumatizing childhood visit, a fear of pain, or even a fear of the cost. Regardless of where it began, it ends here.
Sedation isn't only for anxious patients. It's ideal for patients who have put off dental care for years, patients who want all their work completed in as few visits as possible, and patients with sensitive teeth or gums. And with low-interest and no-interest financing, the care you've been avoiding is affordable on almost any budget.
If you have been… sedation is for you.
Avoiding the Dentist
Years without a visit because the thought alone is overwhelming. We can complete a lot of care in one relaxed appointment.
Traumatized in the Past
A bad childhood experience or painful visit that never left you. Sedation gives you mastery over that fear.
Sensitive to Everything
Teeth or gums that make even cleanings hard, or a strong gag reflex. Sedation makes treatment comfortable.
Short on Time
Busy professionals who want all their dental work — even a full smile makeover — done in as few visits as possible.
Simple. Safe. Comfortable.
- Before your visit. After a health review, we prescribe a pill to take one hour before treatment. Arrange for someone to drive you.
- On arrival. We can provide additional relaxants so you feel completely at ease in a heated massage chair.
- During treatment. You remain conscious and responsive, but deeply relaxed — most patients have little recollection of the visit.
- Afterward. Your companion takes you home to rest. Many patients wake up wondering why they waited so long.
A whole new smile — in one relaxed visit.
In addition to sedation dentistry, Dr. Ritchie Beougher has been Plano's top cosmetic dentist for more than 30 years. Sedation is how many patients complete a full SmileLift™ smile makeover in a single, effortless appointment.
- Complete a SmileLift™, veneers, implants, or years of restorative work in fewer visits
- Relaxed enough that complex treatment feels effortless
- Low-interest and no-interest financing available
If you would like to spoil the day for a grouch, give him a smile.

Everything to know about sedation dentistry.
Is sedation dentistry safe?
Yes. Conscious oral sedation is a well-established, safe technique. We review your health history and medications first, monitor you throughout treatment, and require a companion to drive you home.
Will I be asleep?
No — you remain conscious and able to respond, but deeply relaxed. Most patients remember little or nothing of the appointment.
Will I feel any pain?
Local anesthesia is still used for treatment, and sedation makes you calm enough that most patients report no painful sensations at all.
How long does the sedation last?
You'll feel relaxed for several hours after your appointment, which is why you must have someone drive you home. Most patients feel normal by the next morning.
Can I get all my dental work done in one visit?
Often, yes. Sedation lets us complete extensive treatment — even a full smile makeover — in one or two relaxed appointments instead of many.
Is nitrous oxide (laughing gas) available too?
Yes. For lighter relaxation — a cleaning or whitening, for example — nitrous oxide is available and wears off within minutes.
Is sedation dentistry affordable?
Our low-interest and no-interest financing options make dentistry affordable on almost any budget. We'll explain every option before treatment.
