What Is All-on-X (X-on-X)?

An entire arch of teeth on a handful of implants.

All-on-X is a full-arch dental implant treatment that replaces all of the upper or lower teeth with a single fixed bridge anchored to four, five, or six implants. The "X" is the number of implants — All-on-4 and All-on-6 are the most common — chosen for your bone, your bite, and the arch being restored. You may also hear it called X-on-X: the same fixed full-arch treatment, named to make the point that both the number of implants and the design of the bridge are customized to you rather than sold as a one-size protocol. The teeth are screwed to the implants and stay in your mouth; only your dentist removes them.

At Smile Maker of Texas in Plano, All-on-X is planned with 3D CBCT imaging and performed in our Implant Treatment Center by Dr. Young Kyu Kim, DMD — a surgeon who spent 18+ years as a master dental ceramist crafting the very kind of full-arch restorations he now places. Dr. Ritchie Beougher, creator of the SmileLift™, designs the shape, shade, and lip support of your new teeth so the result reads as a face, not a denture. For many patients, failing teeth come out, implants go in, and a provisional set of teeth is attached in a single visit.

All-on-4 vs. All-on-6

Why "X"? Because the number is chosen for you.

Some practices sell one protocol to every patient. We read your 3D scan first, then decide how many implants your arch needs — and where they go.

All-on-4Four implants per arch

Two straight implants in front and two angled implants in back make the most of the bone you have. Often avoids bone grafting and sinus lifts, and is a common choice for the lower arch and for patients with significant bone loss.

All-on-6Six implants per arch

Two additional implants spread the load, add stability, and give the bridge more support for heavy biters. Frequently recommended for the upper arch, where bone is softer, when the scan shows the room for it.

  • 3D CBCT imaging decides, not a sales script. Our head-and-neck scanner maps bone volume, nerves, and sinuses so implant count and angles are planned before you're ever numb. About our 3D scanner →
  • Full-mouth reconstruction training. Dr. Kim is Hiossen Master Course trained in implant surgery and full-mouth rehabilitation — the exact discipline All-on-X demands.
  • One roof, one team. Extractions, implants, the provisional teeth, and the final bridge all happen in our Plano Implant Treatment Center, by doctors who talk to each other every day.

Why All-on-X

Everything a denture can't do.

A denture rests on your gums. All-on-X teeth are anchored in your jaw — and that changes how you eat, speak, and carry your face.

01

Fixed, Not Removable

Your teeth stay in. No adhesive, no soaking cup, no fear of them slipping mid-sentence or mid-meal.

02

No Palate

Unlike an upper denture, the bridge doesn't cover the roof of your mouth — so you taste food, feel temperature, and speak naturally.

03

Preserves Bone & Face

Implants stimulate the jaw the way roots do, slowing the bone loss that makes denture wearers' faces sink and age.

04

Eat What You Want

Steak, apples, corn on the cob. Fixed implant teeth restore a large share of natural bite force — the bridge is built for it.

Are You a Candidate?

Told you don't have enough bone? Ask again.

All-on-X was designed for patients who've been turned away from single implants. Angled placement uses the dense bone you still have — often without grafting.

  • Most or all teeth failing in an arch
  • Loose or uncomfortable dentures
  • Bone loss from years without teeth
  • Advanced gum disease or decay
  • Stable overall health — some conditions need clearance
  • Non-smoker (or willing to pause)

Not sure where you stand? A complimentary consultation with a 3D scan gives you a clear, honest answer — All-on-4, All-on-6, a graft first, or another path entirely.

Questions, Answered

Everything to know about All-on-X and X-on-X in Plano.

What is the difference between All-on-4 and All-on-6?

Both are All-on-X full-arch bridges; the number is how many implants support the arch. All-on-4 uses four implants, with the back two angled to use existing bone and often avoid grafting. All-on-6 adds two implants for extra support and load distribution, and is frequently recommended for the upper jaw or heavier bites. Your 3D CBCT scan determines which is right for you.

What is X-on-X? Is it different from All-on-X?

No — X-on-X is another name for the same fixed full-arch implant treatment. Both terms mean a full bridge of teeth ("All") on a customized number of implants ("X"). Some practices prefer X-on-X to stress that nothing is pre-decided: the implant count, positions, and bridge design are all chosen from your 3D scan. At Smile Maker of Texas we use the terms interchangeably.

Is All-on-X the same as "teeth in a day"?

Usually, yes. For most All-on-X patients, extractions, implant placement, and a fixed provisional bridge happen in one visit — so you leave with teeth. The final, long-term bridge is made after 3–6 months of healing.

Can All-on-X teeth be removed?

Not by you. The bridge is screwed to the implants and stays in your mouth like natural teeth. Your dentist can remove it at maintenance visits for cleaning or adjustments. If you'd prefer something you can take out, an implant-retained snap-in denture may suit you better.

I've been told I don't have enough bone for implants. Can I still get All-on-X?

Very often, yes. All-on-X angles the rear implants into the denser bone at the front of the jaw, which is why many patients turned away from single implants are candidates. In some cases a graft or sinus lift is still recommended; your 3D scan gives an honest answer.

Does All-on-X surgery hurt?

Surgery is performed with local anesthesia and sedation dentistry is available, so most patients remember little of the visit. Expect swelling and soreness for several days, managed with medication and a soft diet.

How long does All-on-X take from start to finish?

Plan on one surgical day, then 3–6 months of healing while wearing provisional teeth, then delivery of the final bridge. The consultation and 3D planning come before surgery, typically within a few weeks.

How much does All-on-X cost in Plano?

Cost depends on the number of arches, All-on-4 versus All-on-6, whether extractions or grafting are needed, sedation, and the final bridge material. Your complimentary consultation includes a 3D scan and an exact, all-inclusive figure, and financing is available. About our fees.

How long does All-on-X last?

The implants themselves can last decades — often a lifetime — with good hygiene and regular maintenance. The bridge on top is a precision-made restoration that may be refreshed after many years of wear, like any prosthetic.

How do I clean All-on-X teeth?

Brush twice daily, use a water flosser and floss threaders or interdental brushes under the bridge, and keep regular hygiene visits, where the bridge can be removed and professionally cleaned as needed.

Can I get All-on-X on both the upper and lower jaw?

Yes. Many patients restore both arches, sometimes in the same surgical visit. Others begin with the arch that troubles them most and complete the second later.

Do you see All-on-X patients from Dallas and the surrounding area?

Yes. Our Implant Treatment Center in Plano is on the Dallas North Tollway, minutes from Dallas, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Richardson, and Addison.
